Childhood pals Lalita “Nauti” Nautiyal, Sundar Mohan Tripathi, and Sushil Kumar “S.K.” Pant live in Tehri, Uttarakhand. S.K. is a dishonest attorney who earns money from agreements reached outside of court. Over the top fashion designer, Nauti has a lofty opinion of herself. She chooses to romance each of her childhood pals for a week because she wants to get married.
As S.K. discovers Nauti and Tripathi embracing, things take a bad turn. He begins to ridicule and avoid them after being brokenhearted. An exaggerated energy bill of 150,000 rupees ($1,900) is placed on Tripathi’s small-town printing press, and it rises to 5.4 million rupees ($68,000) in the following months.
He and Nauti go to S.K. to find an answer, but he taunts them instead. Without a place to go, Tripathi kills himself. The happenings catch S.K. off guard, and he changes his mind. He makes the decision to take on SPTL, the privatized energy provider in charge of the exorbitant rates. Gulnaar Rizvi is representing SPTL in the lawsuit against SK as their attorney.
