Why Did Lord Shri Krishna Marry 16 Thousand Girls?

According to the Puranas, a demon by the name of Bhumasura once made the decision to sacrifice 16 000 virgins in order to become everlasting. However, Shri Krishna forbade Bhumasura from doing this transgression. All of the females were released from prison and returned back to their homes by him.

However, for those females, Shri Krishna’s assistance turned out to be a curse. The society-family declined to adopt these girls once they were released from the demon’s control and returned home, considering them characterless. Then, Lord Krishna appeared to him in 16 000 different avatars to wed him. Although there are some tales that claim that these women chose to accept Krishna as their husbands out of a fear of social rejection, Krishna never accepted her as his wife.
